Lawrence Edward Melton, 95, of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his home in Beloit.
Lawrence was born on February 5, 1923 in Dresden, Tennessee, the son of David and Mintie (Tucker) Melton. He served with the CB's in the United States Navy. Lawrence married the former Ramona June Burch on July 21, 1953 in Dowagiac, Michigan. Ramona preceded him in death on October 6, 1995.
Lawrence was employed with Carpenters Union Local 836 and worked with several construction companies around the area including Kennedy Construction, Cunningham Construction, Manheimer Construction and Klobucar Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.
Lawrence is survived by his children, Alan (Sandra) Melton of Beloit, Lori (Richard) Williams of Poulsbo, Washington, Ruby (Keith) Kennedy of Springfield, Louisiana, and Larry (Carol) Melton of Dowagiac, Michigan, grandchildren, Daniel (Heather) Cain, Elizabeth Williams, Pasqual Divietro, and Nichole Heath, great-grandchildren, Dani Cain, Courtney Cain, Claudia LeHury, and Dominic Curnutte, great-great-grandchildren, Zariah Wilson, and Amir Tejeda, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home 424 Prospect Street, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511. Visitation is prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Committal in the veterans section at Eastlawn Cemetery in Beloit will follow the service with military honors provided by the Mead-Allen VFW Post 2306 in Beloit.
