Ray Garner Dimmel, 85, of Rockton, IL passed away 4:49 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2017.
He was born November 29, 1932, the second son of Roland and Zelma (Mitchell) Dimmel. He was a highly respected and valued employee with Beloit Box Board for 40+ years retiring in 1992. Ray married the love of his life, Betty Carpenter, on January 27, 1951. Together they raised their five amazing kids. After retirement, many years were spent planting and tending their vegetable garden, as well as preparing wood before the winter months arrived. They always found time for those unforgettable fishing adventures. Betty predeceased him in 2009. Dad had this special talent of becoming lifelong friends with complete strangers, and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He certainly had the "gift of gab."
Survivors include his five children: Mike Dimmel, Chris (Don) Ergen, Sr., Jeff (Deanna) Dimmel, Randy (Sue) Dimmel, and Sandra Fiebig; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; along with nephews, nieces and cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings Clifford, Sr. and Elbie, grandson Hethe, and infant great great granddaughter Ily.
The family wishes to thank the phenomenal staff of Pioneer Court who went above and beyond, and Beloit Regional Hospice for their compassionate care; Dad's church family for all their prayers and we can't forget Dad's neighbors for stopping in for a visit and making his days a little bit brighter after Mom's death. Thank you.
