Shirley A. Eicher, 84, of Freeport, IL, died Friday, November 24, 2017 at Parkview Home, Freeport, IL.
She was born November 7, 1933 in Petersham, MA, the daughter of Arthur and Helena (Wilbar) Dorow. Shirley was a graduate from high school in Petersham, MA. She married Harold Eicher on December 11, 1965 in Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on March 13, 2015.
After high school, Shirley played professional basketball for the All American Red Heads for one year and played for the Texas Cowgirls for two years. She met her husband in Beloit while she was working at Amerock in Rockford, IL. After raising their two children, she helped Harold with his Aircraft sales business. Shirley was a selfless person, one of 17 children, and was devoted to the well-being of others, especially her family. She loved nature and the outdoors. Her favorite bird was the cardinal and she had many clothes and other objects with the cardinal adorned on them. Shirley liked to keep her mind sharp by reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her son, Greg (Ronda) Eicher of Freeport, IL; daughter, Karen (John) Eicher-Peterson of Flemington, NJ; grandchildren, Amanda and Jason Eicher both of Freeport, IL, Abby and Drew Peterson both of Flemmington, NJ; and four siblings.
She was predeceased by her parents and 12 siblings.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Parkview Home for the kindness, care, and affection they showed Shirley.
Private family graveside services will be held in East Lawn Cemetery. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
