Three Rockford men face charges following a shooting in the parking lot of a Town of Beloit business that left three men wounded.

Town of Beloit police were notified at 1:58 a.m. Sunday of a shooting at the Silver Slipper Saloon, 1901 S. Wisconsin Ave., formerly the Bear Chest, an adult exotic dance club. When police arrived they saw 20 to 30 individuals fleeing on foot and in vehicles.

Antwann Griffin, 25, of Rockford was identified as one of the shooters, according to a Town of Beloit Police news release. He was charged with recklessly endangering safety, intoxicated use of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. John Griffin, 22, and Leanthony Lilly, 26, both of Rockford, also have been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct respectively. Antwann Griffin is being held at the Winnebago County Jail awaiting extradition to Wisconsin while John Griffin and Leanthony Lilly were charged and released with court dates.

Antwann Griffin is expected to appear in court later today, said Town of Beloit Police Chief Steven Kopp.

Police are looking over surveillance footage from the night of the shooting, Kopp said. At least one other subject was seen shooting on camera, and police have yet to identify the suspect.

South Beloit police pulled over the car containing Antwann Griffin, John Griffin and Leathony Lilly shortly after the shooting.

Two men with gun shot wounds to their legs, arrived at Beloit Memorial Hospital shortly after the shooting was reported.

One of the victims was treated and released, the other had to have surgery and is still being cared for at Beloit Memorial Hospital, Kopp said.

John Griffin was treated by paramedics for a bullet graze to the head. Kopp said the victims have told police the accounts of the night.

It is believed other men fired guns during the incident.

Kopp said the fight may have been between Rockford and Beloit residents.

Police believe the confrontation between the individuals involved started at Viking Lanes, 210 Oak Grove Ave., South Beloit, then moved to the Silver Slipper later.

As the bar was closing, the subjects exited the bar and a fist fight broke out. Shortly afterward the suspects took out their guns and began firing, Kopp said. There aren’t any known gang affiliations yet, but witnesses told police those involved were seen flashing gang signs inside the club.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Town of Beloit Police at 608-757-2244.

THE DAILY NEWS AND TOWN OF BELOIT POLICE NEGLECTED TO CONTACT VIKINGS FOR COMMENT. HAD THEY DONE SO THEY WOULD HAVE LEARNED THAT NOTHING HAPPENED. EVERYTHING TRANSPIRED AT THIS FILTHY ESTABLISHMENT IN THE TOWN OF BELOIT. ITS UNFORTUNATE YOU HAVE BEEN MISLED BY A LESS THAN HONORABLE NEWSPAPER

This is extremely shoddy news reporting...this poorly written article suggests if not indicates that this gun battle began at viking lanes in sourth beloit....there is not a germ of truth to that allegation....security was in place at viking lanes and no incidents were started......shame on the beloit daily news for not verifying the ridiculous allegation of Town of Beloit Police that the incident began at viking lanes...Town of Beloit police, conforming to their practice, have their heads buried in sand. This less than honorable reporting is exactly why i refuse to subscribe to the daily news. Get your facts right daly news before misinforming the general public.

How long is the Town of Beloit going to put up with the trouble at the Silver Sipper(Bear Chest). The amount of hours spent patrolling this place is rediculious. Take away the liqour license. It's about time. Nothing but trouble for years.

I don't care that the Silver Slipper is a strip club. What I care about are the parking lot shootings, scissor fights, and violence that happen inside and outside the club. Isabella Queen doesn't seem to have these problems. I also don't care where the argument started, it ended in the Town of Beloit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Walmart has had a parking lot shooting or scissor fight. How many man hours does the Town of Beloit Police Department spend babysitting the parking lot of of the Silver Slipper, with the City and County backing them up? Don't other businesses in the town and the residents deserve just as much attention? Maybe the owner of the Silver Slipper should have a talk with the owners of Rex Lanes and discuss how to turn around their rowdy, trouble making crowd before another of our officers ends up shot.

They can shut down all kinds of establishments that do not meet your moral standards, but it will not stop people from being stupid. The "fight" started at a bowling alley and could have ended anywhere. The fact that it ended at the Slippery Saloon unfortunately adds to the poor reputation of that neighborhood. It could have ended at Walmart - now, I would gladly jump on the bandwagon to shut that place down!!

I also think that the place should also be shut down. The place has done nothing but get worse over the years, not only are there shootings in the parking lot but inside the club is another story. I encourage people to call and complain if we all band together and call the board and complain hopefully for the safety of our children and Beloit the place will be shut down.

As the article suggests however, it may not have started at the Silver Slipper. I'm not defending them, but closing them down will only punish the periperhals without addressing the actual people and circumstances involved.

It's time to close this place down before someone is killed. This is not the first parking lot shooting here. Changing the name certainly didn't class up the joint. I suggest Township residents and the city residents that live nearby call the town and complain to the board members. Enough is enough.
