ROSCOE — Just because the days are getting shorter and the school year has started doesn’t mean the family fun has to end.

The Roscoe Lions Club will host the 42nd Annual Roscoe Fall Festival Friday through Sunday at Leland Park.

The festival will feature carnival rides and games, music, food, a parade and a raffle featuring a $5,000 grand prize.

Leonard Porter of the Roscoe Lions Club said the Fall Festival helps the club raise around $14,000 each year, which the club donates to a variety of charities. Funds go to the Old Stone Church Pantry, the Goldie Floberg Center, Boy Scouts Summer Camp, scholarships and more.

The fun kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday with Skinner’s Amusement Rides kicking off the festival fun in Leland Park.

Each day of the festival, the Roscoe Lions will serve food in the Lions Cafe and the Lions club members will staff the Lions Bingo Tent.

Live bands also will provide music each night of the festival.

On Saturday there will be a Kiddie Costume Parade starting at 10:30 a.m. Children are invited to dress in costumes and join the parade, which will begin at the Roscoe United Methodist Church and end near the grandstand area of Leland Park. Refreshments and a free ride at the Fall Festival will be provided to all participants at the end of the parade. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three costumes, along with an invitation to take part in the Fall Festival Parade on Sunday.

Sunday’s events will begin with the breakfast hosted by the Roscoe United Methodist Men starting at 7 a.m.

The Fall Festival Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Bridge and Main streets. The parade route will move to Chestnut Street and then to Leland Park. The carnival will open at noon on Sunday and discount rides will be offered. From 1 - 7 p.m., fest-goers can get 10 ride tickets for $15.

The grand prize drawing will be held at 8 p.m. The grand prize will be $5,000 in cash. Second prize will be $1,500 in cash and third prize will be $1,000 in cash. There will be 10 $50 cash winners. Tickets can be purchased from Roscoe Lions Club members.

The festival will be topped off with a fireworks display at about 8:30 p.m.
