BELOIT - A motorcyclist has died following a crash with another vehicle on Prairie Avenue in Beloit, according to police.
An unidentified 36-year-old male driver of a black motorcycle collided with a black minivan driven by a 23-year-old woman at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Robin Road at around 9:22 a.m. Tuesday, killing the man, according to command staff.
According to the initial accident report, the man was driving his motorcycle north on Prairie as the van was headed west on Robin at the stoplight and attempted to turn left to go south onto Prairie.
Citizens were asked to avoid the area until the crash scene was cleared just after 1 p.m.
City of Beloit Director of Strategic Communications Sarah Millard said no other party "was treated or transported" in the incident. She added that there were no passengers in the minivan at the time of the crash.
Director of Operations at the Rock County Medical Examiner's Office Barry Irmen said he would release the name of the man after an autopsy was completed, noting that could be either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.
Beloit police command staff said Wednesday any citation or arrest was subject to findings of the ongoing investigation, and would not comment further.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office accident reconstruction unit is assisting in the investigation.
The crash from Tuesday comes only days after another fatal motorcycle incident on July 1 at the intersection of Eighth Street and Shirland Avenue that killed 26-year-old Beloit resident James C. Hutchinson, Jr. after he rear-ended a pickup truck.
