BELOIT - The School District of Beloit Board of Education is holding a community forum tonight to see what community stakeholders want in the next Superintendent.
The event will be held from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the Kolak Education Center Boardroom, 1633 Keeler. Ave. The event is being facilitated by Dr. Jim Shaw, one of the consultants with School Exec Connect, which is the firm hired by the district to conduct the superintendent search process, according to Jennifer Thompson, public information officer for the district.
Thompson said the board and consultant will listen to community input regarding strengths, challenges and aspirations for a new superintendent.
"They will use this information to create a profile they will use as they are actively recruiting and vetting applicants for the job," Thompson said.
The School District of Beloit is expected to have a new superintendent by July 1. In December 2017, Superintendent Tom Johnson announced his resignation effective June 30, 2018, due to serious health problems. Darrell Williams, assistant superintendent for administration, operations and equity has been serving as interim superintendent.
Staff and community also have the opportunity to give confidential written feedback to the consultants via a link from the district website, https://www.sdb.k12.wi.us.
The district also will be convening focus groups in addition to tonight's open community forum to gather input.
Formal recruitment activities began March 16 and the superintendent position was posted on March 27.
