Portion of Rock River to close for fireworks

ROCKFORD - Effective from 7 p.m. on July 4 until the completion of the fireworks display, the Rock River will be closed to watercraft south of the Chestnut Street Bridge to the Fordham Dam and from the Morgan Street Bridge north to the Fordham Dam for the public's safety.

There also will be a temporary No wake Zone from the Auburn Street bridge south to the Fordam Dam from 7 p.m. until the completion of the fireworks display.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department would like to remind all boaters to operate their watercrafts in a safe manner over the holiday. The Sheriff's Department will have a patrol presence on the river.
