TOWN OF SUMNER - A 14-year-old Town of Jefferson boy died Saturday evening in a snowmobile crash, according to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office was notified of the crash at 6:39 p.m. Deputies as well as emergency crews from Edgerton, Fort and Jefferson fire departments, as well as Ryan Brothers EMS, responded to the scene near County Road A - Advent Road, in the Town of Sumner.

Initial investigations indicate the boy was riding on the snowmobile trail when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the trail, resulting in the crash. Other snowmobilers and bystanders tried to assist the youth with lifesaving measures until emergency crews arrived, but the boy could not be revived.

The investigation is continuing. The name of the youth was not released by the sheriff's office.
