The Beloit Rotary Club has recognized Nicholas Dotson and Kailyn Packard as Rotary Students of the Week for F.J. Turner High School.
Nicholas Dotson is the son of Lori Dotson and Jason Dotson. He has been a high honor roll student all four years at Turner High School, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. Nick has also been a member of the National Honor Society for three years.
While at Turner, Nick has been very involved in extra-curriculars. He is heavily involved in the music and drama department at Turner. Nick has been involved in his school's a cappella group, Beloit Turner Overdrive, for 3 years and is a leader in the group. He has also been in choir for 4 years and is a section leader as well. Nick has also enjoyed participating in the musical and one acts. Besides music and drama, Nick has been involved in mock trial for four years and is a team captain. He has participated in Club PAC as well.
Nick has enjoyed volunteering for the Beloit Junior Women's Club during all of his time in high school. Nick has also volunteered as a tutor in his school and also goes out caroling with Beloit Turner Overdrive every year.
Nick will be majoring in business with an emphasis on the music industry. He has been accepted into UW-Madison and will be attending at the beginning next fall.
Kailyn Packard is the daughter of Jim and Cindy Packard and Dori and Dan Hughes. In the classroom, she has stayed on high honor roll throughout her high school career and currently has a GPA above 4.0. Kailyn has also enrolled in Advanced Placement Statistic, and Advanced Calculus AB.
Kailyn has been a part of numerous clubs and activities while at Turner. She has been a part of student council and the National Honors Society since her sophomore year. Also, she has been a member of Youth to Youth, Environmental Club, Outdoor Pursuits Club and the prom committee.
Outside of the classroom, Kailyn participated in basketball her freshman year and has lettered in softball since her freshman year. While being a part of the varsity softball team, she has been to the state tournament twice with one third place finish her freshman year and a runner-up finish her junior year. Kailyn has been on the Janesville Gazette all area team three times, the Gazette Co-player of the Year her junior year, three time first team Rock Valley Conference pitcher, two time Rock Valley Conference Player of the Year, three time first team all-district, honorable mention all-state her freshman year, third team all-state her sophomore year, and first team all-state her junior year. Additionally, Kailyn plays travel softball for the Illinois Chill Gold out of Chicago.
In her free time, Kailyn gives softball pitching lessons and has volunteered at her church soup kitchen, Caritas and Salvation Army bell ringing. Kailyn also has tutored students in math.
After high school, Kailyn is attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City on a softball scholarship and plans to major in secondary math education with a minor in exercise science.
