'Senior citizens need your help'

Print Article

Have you ever needed a ride to see a doctor, go to a hospital or to pick up a few necessary groceries? Many of our senior citizens do. There are many who no longer drive. Many are widowed or have no family in their area to help them.

Rock County currently provides a free service to those needing transportation with a program called Retired Senior Volunteer Services (RSVP). However, it is in jeopardy of losing the necessary funding to continue this service that many rely on. Sadly, many of our sponsors have had to downsize their donations and what funding is needed is no longer available. It seems "services" are the first to be cut from county budgets when donations run low.

If RSVP can find the funds to cover these costs for this badly needed service, we can continue to help our seniors and provide this helpful service. Otherwise, I'm afraid many will go without basic health care or food to eat.

Perhaps through contributions from our local businesses or caring citizens we can all pull together and give back to our community.

If you are interested in helping, please contact RSVP at 608-362-9593.
