Regarding the editorial opinion in the BDN January 24, I reiterate points from my letter published September 20, 2017.
A community of 161,000 residents can be managed by one government body. Put the history of the subsections of Rock County in the cloud. The real savings for county taxpayers is to have one county mayor/manager, police chief, fire chief, etc., and on down the line with a larger citizen pool for public offices, volunteer boards and one administrative code.
Let's start the conversation. That's what I said in response to the August 10, 2017 BDN guest commentary by Beloit's city manager, a commentary that opposed dividing the Town of Beloit.
I was and still am in agreement with her direction as stated in her commentary, but believe the scope should encompass all of Rock County.
Boundary arguments and small government bodies have not kept pace with technology. As most voters seem happy with the taxes they pay and the government they get.
