'YMCA becoming community center'

Print Article

The new YMCA in the Ironworks complex is a great asset to Beloit and the Stateline Area. The old iron and steel bones of the Beloit Foundry remain visible and are integral to the building and a reminder of Beloit's industrial history.

This old industrial building now mingles with modern hip, vibrant colors, big windows overlooking the river, state of the art exercise equipment, first class pools, a fun track, a large hot tub, classrooms and much more.

It is neat to see the mosaic of people exercising together: young and old, teens, folks of all shapes, colors, lengths and sizes, people with canes, ironman candidates and silver sneaker seniors next to each other on the treadmills. They all seem to be having fun, exercising.

Our Y is morphing into a community center for health and well being.

I especially like having Beloit Health System physical therapists located in the building, valet parking, friendly staff and classes, especially the qigong classes.

Another reason to say "Beloit Proud."
