Autopsy: Rockton victim was stabbed
By Daily News writers
ROCKTON - A stab wound to the neck caused the death of a 65-year-old Rockton area woman Saturday.
Winnebago County Coroner Elizabeth “Sue” Fiduccia said autopsy results confirmed the cause of death. She arrived on the scene at 6441 Alice Lane, west of Rockton, at about 2 p.m. Saturday. She said the victim, Constance Hounsell, had been dead for several hours.
Hounsell was found dead in her home by a friend just after 1 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say her death is the first homicide in Rockton since a newborn, known as Baby Crystal, was found frozen to death in a trash bag along a rural road in December of 2004.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department has not made any arrests, Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said. He declined to speak about suspects.
Several detectives are investigating the homicide. They are talking with Hounsell's relatives, associates, co-workers and friends, Iasparro said.
Detectives have finished combing the crime scene. Iasparro said authorities did not find signs of forced entry.
Hounsell, a widow, lived alone at the residence.
She had eight children, who are all adults.
Many people in Beloit remember her as a friendly associate at the Elder Beerman store, where she worked for three years. She also attended Beloit Memorial High School.
She also had worked as an aide at Shirland Elementary School in Shirland, Ill.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about Hounsell's death to call the sheriff's office at 815-319-6400 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
