Blood drive scheduled
ROSCOE - A blood drive will be held from noon - 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Roscoe VFW, 11385 Second St., Roscoe.

The blood drive is being held for the Rock River Valley Blood Center, which provides blood for Beloit Memorial Hospital, Rockford Memorial Hospital, SwedishAmerican Hospital, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center and other area health providers.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health on the day they give blood.

Diabetes group meets
A Diabetes Support Group will meet at 9 a.m. Nov. 18 at Beloit Memorial Hospital, 1969 W. Hart Road, Beloit.

The support group is for those with diabetes or for those who want to support their loved ones with diabetes.

Drug discounts offered
ROCKFORD - Winnebago County soon ill be introducing a discount card program to help people cope with the high price of prescription drugs.

The county has signed a contract to make free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties that offers average savings of 22 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. The cards will be available in mid-November and may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income or existing health conditions.

Approximately 50 pharmacies in the county will accept the card.

Flu, pneumonia shots
ROSCOE - A flu and pneumonia shot clinic will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at Curves, 5348 Williams Drive, Roscoe.

The Winnebago County has scheduled the clinic.

Flu shots will be offered for a $30 fee. The shot is covered by Medicare Part B and by various supplementary insurance policies. The cost for the pneumonia shot is $45. It also is covered by Medicare Part B and supplementary insurance.

Fatherhood discussed
ROCKFORD - The Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood will hold a symposium from 1 - 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Zeek Giorgi Center, 200 S. Wyman St., Rockford.

The event is free and open to the public.

Through the symposium, the Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood hopes to build a network of groups that are committed to generating public awareness of fatherhood issues. Representatives from local churches, social service organizations and the Department of Human Services will be among those attending.
