(Thursday) - A new steam turbine has been installed at the Beloit Electric Co. plant; it generates 1,000 kilowatts and increases the plant's capacity by 50 percent. ... Charles Deakin's horse, “Sultan,” tied the record of 1:14.25 minutes at the fairgrounds yesterday.

(Wednesday) - Badger Hi-Y officers installed Tuesday include Ken Vultaggio, president; Kirby Meives, vice president; David Black, treasurer; and Steve Carroll, secretary. ... A half-acre tract on the west side of Prairie Avenue, between Northgate Drive and Virginia Street, has been purchased by the Beloit school district as the site for a new northeast side junior high school.

(Saturday) - John Spanton, 38, of Evansville, convicted of second degree murder in the death of his ex-wife, Lisa, in 1974, is being released after serving nine years and two months of his 22-year prison sentence. ... Area lenders say the mortgage foreclosure problem here is getting worse; at least 127 foreclosure sales are expected in 1983 in Rock County, according to the sheriff's department officer in charge of holding foreclosure sales. ... The Harry Steffens and the Orion Eidahls of Beloit will note 50th anniversaries. ... Brodhead-Juda's Cardinals defeated Evansville in an upset, 16-7, and Parkview downed Big Foot, 24-20; Jeff Riter and Chuck Buttke starred for the Cardinals, while Keith Hartman and Mike Sloniker were standouts for the Vikings.

(Thursday) - Beloit Memorial's Katie Connelly played in a steady rain to card an 84 on the Delbrook golf course, which she described as her “jinx” course; she advances to WIAA sectional competition with the win. ... Former Beloit deputy clerk of courts, Dorinda Dardin, has pleaded guilty to destroying documents and stealing funds from the courts office; she was ordered to serve three years' probation and to make restitution of $989.

... The Vernon Butzlers of Footville and the Max Rykowskis of South Beloit will note 50th anniversaries.
