Bucks start off sluggish
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Rookie Kevin Love scored 13 points and Mike Miller added 12, lifting the Timberwolves to a 117-79 preseason victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night that made Minnesota's draft day trade look promising.
Al Jefferson chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes, and the new-look Timberwolves may have acquired enough offensive threats to improve on last season's 22-60 mark.
Love originally was credited with 16 points, but 1 hour, 15 minutes after the game, the official scoring crew took three points away from Love and added them to Corey Brewer's total, giving him 12. The crew incorrectly had given Brewer an assist on the play and Love the basket.
Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut, who signed a five-year contract worth up to $72.5 million this offseason, was a late scratch with a migraine headache.
Luke Ridnour (right knee tendinitis), Tyronn Lue (strained groin), Charlie Bell (left heel) and first-round draft pick Joe Alexander (abdominal strain) also didn't play for Milwaukee. Forward Richard Jefferson, acquired in a draft day trade with New Jersey, left after scoring four points in eight minutes with a strained left quad muscle.
NFL: Westbrook hurting
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook broke two ribs in the Eagles' 23-17 loss to Washington on Sunday, though he kept playing and finished the game.
Westbrook missed one game this season with an ankle injury, but it's too early to know if his latest injury will keep him out of Sunday's game at San Francisco.
MORE NFL: Edwards still reeling
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards was described as alert but still experiencing post-concussion symptoms Monday, leaving his status uncertain as the team enters its bye week.
Coach Dick Jauron sidestepped questions regarding the quarterback's health, except to say that Edwards showed up at the Bills' headquarters a day after being slammed to the ground on the third play from scrimmage during a 41-17 loss at Arizona.
Jauron said it was too early to determine whether the quarterback would be ready to play when Buffalo (4-1) hosts San Diego (2-3) on Oct. 19.
NASCAR: Hamlin is OK
TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - Denny Hamlin was released from a hospital Monday, a day after a tire failure led to a hard crash at Talladega Superspeedway.
Hamlin was kept overnight for observation at a Birmingham hospital after his car slammed into a wall. He was alert and awake when he was transported to the UAB Medical Center on Sunday, but was complaining of a headache and possibly had a concussion. He was also favoring his right foot after a slow exit from his crumpled car.
