LOVES PARK - A Stateline Area business will embark on a multimillion dollar expansion project that should double its number of jobs over the next four years.
Danfoss Drives plans to add 129,000 square feet to its Loves Park location, 4401 N. Bell School Road, because the domestic and export sales have grown so much, said Susan Dimond, marketing communications manager.
“It's great news for us that the company will invest in us,” she said.
Based in Denmark, Danfoss Group employed more than 22,000 worldwide at the end of 2007.
Danfoss Drives provides frequency converters that control the speed of industrial motors used in the food, beverage, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and water industries.
The company will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the Loves Park plant at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The production facility should be finished and ready for use by May 2009. Renovations to existing space are set to end by September 2009, Dimond said.
Danfoss Drives expects to add about 250 jobs - almost doubling the current employee number of 274. However, Dimond said, the jobs will not be added at once because company officials have yet to determine which departments will need more personnel.
Mechanical and electric engineers, production workers and administrators are some of the positions that will be needed, Dimond said.
She could not say when the company will begin hiring for its expansion.
Danfoss Drives has been in the Rockford area for about 25 years. Construction began on the North Bell School Road location in 2000. The building was completed 2001.
“In those seven years we've completely outgrown the building we have,” Dimond said.
The company also has a Milwaukee location, Dimond said. Danfoss acquired the Graham Company there in 1995.
Dimond said more information about the expansion will be released at its groundbreaking.
