Blood drive to be held
A blood drive will be held noon - 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Beloit Rotary River Center, 1220 Riverside Drive, Beloit.

The blood drive is being held for the Rock River Valley Blood Center, which provides blood and related products to Beloit Memorial Hospital, Rockford Memorial Hospital, SwedishAmerican Hospital and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health on the day they give blood.

Chronic issues discussed
People struggling with chronic health issues can learn ways to cope with challenges by attending a workshop offered for six weeks starting Sept. 8 at United Methodist Church, 511 Public Ave., Beloit.

The workshop, titled “Living Well with Chronic Conditions,” will be offered 9 - 11:30 a.m. each Monday Sept. 8 through Oct. 13. Two trained leaders will facilitate the workshop. Issues to be covered include symptom management, dealing with anger and depression, goal setting and problem solving, medication management, nutrition and exercise and more.

Counseling care in Illinois
Complete counseling services, through Beloit Memorial Hospital's Counseling Care Center, are now available at a new location in Machesney Park.

The new Hilltop Ministry Center, located near I-90 and Hwy 173, offers a complete array of family services including day care, rec nights, counseling and more.

Counseling needs include: Marriage, family, individual, parenting, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, anger, behavior counseling and more. Day and evening hours available. For more information, call the Counseling Center at 608-364-5686.

Oncologist joins Mercy
JANESVILLE - Dr. Dena Green, a board certified hematologist and oncologist has joined the staff at the Mercy Regional Cancer Center as the new co-medical director of Mercy Assisted Care Hospice services.

Green joins Dr. William Winkler, board certified family medicine physician at Mercy Clinic South and faculty member of the Mercy Health System Family Medicine Residency Program.

Green and Winkler also lend their expertise to Mercy Assisted Care's palliative care program, which is a home health service. The palliative care program employs specially trained nurses who provide skilled symptom management for patients with a life-limiting illness, but who are not ready to make the transition to hospice care.

PKD walk set
MADISON - A fundraising event to help fund research for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at Olin Park in Madison.

The event is presented by the PKD Foundation to raise awareness about PKD and raise funds needed for research. PKD is a life-threatening genetic disease which causes cysts to grow on the kidneys and eventually leads to kidney failure. Dialysis and kidney transplants are the most common treatment options.
