Paulette Christianson uses expertise to help community

After nearly 35 years climbing her way up the ladder at First National Bank, Paulette Christianson welcomed her retirement in June 2007. After all, it left her with even more time for volunteering. But her mental capacity for numbers isn't getting rusty anytime soon. She still works about 10 hours a week as the office manager and bookkeeper for three restaurants: Domenicos, La Casa Grande and Palermo's. She is the secretary of the Greater Beloit Ambassadors and was recently named “Ambassador of the Year.” She's also helped organize the Working Women's Wednesday golf outing.

On this day, Paulette is preparing for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new staffing business going into The Beloit Inn. She stands ready, sun glinting in her hair and sunglasses on as she wields a pair of scissors.

“It's exciting to bring new business here to Beloit,” she explained.

Not only is she involved in the community, but she is also busy at her church. During her time at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Paulette has served on the church board, has been treasurer and head of the finance committee and has delivered the altar flowers to those who can't make it to Sunday morning service.

But she gets excited when she talks about her very own project, “Good Sense Ministry.” It was her very own idea to start a class which helps teach people of all ages how to budget their money.

“I had people from 18 years old all the way up into their 70s,” Paulette said.

Every year, she counts the money for the Lions fundraiser, Autorama.

“That's an all-day job, about 10 hours,” she said. “It's just me, the money, and my counting machine and it makes for a long day.”

She is currently on the CrimeStoppers board of directors, serves as treasurer for the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce and Beloit Meals on Wheels, where she also delivers meals to those in the community. She also helps with various fundraisers year-round, including the Doves & Diamonds fundraiser for Beloit Regional Hospice and is helping with the Patch Toys sales for this upcoming Town of Beloit fall festival.

She and her husband, Steve, have two children and they enjoy spending time with their grandchildren a few days a week.
