Stateline Area News in Brief
Tornado siren test to take place
Testing of tornado warning sirens in Rock County will occur at 12:05 p.m. Sept. 3.
The test signal will last 1 to 2 minutes. If an actual weather emergency occurred, there would be a steady tone lasting 3 to 5 minutes. This would be the warning to Rock County residents to take cover and tune to their local broadcast stations or weather radio for further information. It is important to not call the Rock County Communications Center if there is a weather emergency.
If residents notice the siren in their area is not working, they can report it by calling 608-758-8440.
Street closings announced
Starting Monday, some streets will be closed or reduced to one lane as part of the Eclipse Boulevard construction.
Park Avenue at the Summit Avenue intersection will be reduced to one lane starting Monday. The reduction to one lane is expected to last a week.
Also, Morse Avenue between Hemlock Street and Park Avenue will be permanently closed on Monday.
Those with business at the Eclipse Center should use the Pine Street entrance off Morse Avenue from Henry Avenue, or the Riverside Drive or Henry Avenue entrances.
Eclipse Boulevard is expected to be complete in November.
Boat races
canceled this year
Thunder on the Rock has been canceled this year due to the amount of debris still presenting a boating danger in the Rock River.
Visit Beloit Executive Director Martha Mitchell said the boat racing event, which was scheduled for Saturday, will be placed on hold until next year.
High amounts of rain flooded the river in June, causing large amounts of debris to be left after waters receded.
Hononegah tables TIF vote
ROCKTON - A vote to approve an intergovernmental agreement regarding the Chemtool Tax Increment Financing district was tabled by the Hononegah Board of Education Wednesday night.
Linda Dhom, a representative of the Hononegah Board of Education, said the board tabled the vote to get clarification from the district's attorney regarding some of the language used in the agreement.
The vote will come to the board again during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 17.
Heart Walk set for Saturday
The Mercy Health System will sponsor the American Heart Association's Beloit Heart Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Park.
