Ambrose P. Manthey
Ambrose P. Manthey, 93, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2008, at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 1, 1915, in Janesville, son of Gregor and Mary (Garske) Manthey. Ambrose worked for over 20 years for W. C. Janisch & Sons, sewer and water contractors, and also farmed for many years.
Survivors include close friends and caregivers, Barb & Doug Kaiser and Glen & Phyllis Merritt; his sister-in-law, Thelma Manthey Larsen; also several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ambrose was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters: Theodore, Art, Richard, Harry “Barney”, Miles “Bud”, Elaine Bladorn, Veronica “Dolly” Schoonover, Genevieve Locast, Geraldine Wallisch, and Mary Larsen; and close friend, Albert “Abe” Ellis.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL HOME, 1618 E. Racine St., Janesville, with Fr. Stephen Umhoefer officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Mead Allen VFW Post #2306, will be at the Town of Rock Cemetery, Afton. A visitation will be held at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 9 until 11 a.m. Memorials to Beloit VFW Post #2306 would be appreciated by the family. Loma ‘Diney' Minor
Loma “Diney” Irvin Minor, 90, of Beloit, Wis., died Friday August 1, 2008 at Beloit Health and Rehab surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 29, 1918 in Wisconsin Rapids to Elmer and Dolly Phillips Minor. His family moved to Beloit when he was a child and he attended Beloit Schools, completing the 8th grade. He then went to work in a quarry. In 1938, he was hired at Kantor Pepsi Cola, which at that time was located on the corner of St. Lawrence and Oak St. In 1940 he got a job at Yates American where he worked until he entered the Army in 1945. After his discharge, he went to work at Wisconsin Knife Works which later became Black & Decker. He worked there as a machinist/foreman until his retirement in 1981. While working at Kantor Pespi Cola he met the love of his live, Jeanette Luce. They were married on June 28, 1940 at the West Side Presbyterian Church. They lived in Beloit their entire married lives where they raised their three children. He was active in Boy Scouts and took woodworking classes to hone his skills in furniture making. His family was very dear to him and he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved gardening, bass fishing, camping and playing Euchre. After his retirement, he and Jeanette spent many fun days and weekends traveling in their Chinook Camper camping and fishing at Yellowstone Lake in Wisconsin. They also traveled visiting relatives in Florida, Arizona, Oregon and several trips to Alaska. They and all of their family celebrated their 60th anniversary with a trip to Florida and cruise to the Bahamas. He enjoyed being busy every minute and was willing to help anyone who had a problem that needed fixing. He loved everything he did and did it with great pride. If he wasn't busy at home he was at Faith Baptist Church helping where needed, doing odd jobs and keeping the church pantry in order. He was a jack of all trades, taking great pride in a job well done and enjoyed the challenge of solving a mechanical problem. In 1945, he began donating blood and in 1984, at the age of 66, he was honored by the Red Cross for donating his 16th gallon. He remained active until his illness in January of 2004. He resided at Beloit Health and Rehabilitation from then until his death. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by daughters: Lynette (Leroy “Sam”) Krueger; Elaine Seager of Beloit and son Phillip Minor of Beloit; four granddaughters: Wendy (Dale) Voshell of Beloit; Kandi (Michael) Bosch of Clinton; Shannon Seager of Beloit and Paula Minor; five grandsons: Phillip Krueger of Beloit; Shane (Courtnay) Seager of Fallon, NV; Kurt (Lee) Seager of Madison, Wis.; John Minor of Hatley, Wis. and Jeff (Becky) Minor of Clarksville, Tenn.; seven great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; one sister, Frances Nelson of Beloit and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his beloved wife Jeanette on May 13, 2007 after 66 years of marriage; his parents, sisters Isabelle Schultz, Dorothy Maples, June Smith and brother LaVerne Minor, grandson Joey Minor and granddaughter Patricia Minor.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday August 7, 2008 at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor James Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at Rosman, Uehling, Kinzer Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
The family would especially like to thank CNAs Crystal and Barb for their loving care and dedication, the staff of Beloit Health and Rehab for their concern and dedication in solving challenges for his needs. The care they have given our father has been a true blessing.
Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
Richard Allen Small
Richard Allen Small, age 53, of Warrens, WI, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Tomah Memorial Hospital, Tomah, WI. Richard was born July 31, 1955 to Richard C. and Betty L. (Mayo) Small, in East Tawas, Michigan. He grew up in Alpena, MI and was a 1973 graduate of Alpena High School. In 1973 Richard moved to Beloit, WI where he met and later married Doreen Hamil. Together they had two sons. Richard worked as a Design Engineer for Gilman Corporation, in Janesville, WI, designing and programming robots for the Saturn plant as well as other companies. Later he moved to Warrens, WI and worked as the warehouse manager for Three Bears Lodge. Richard was an avid sports fan. In high school he participated in baseball, softball, bowling and found time to be in band. He also loved shooting pool, hunting and muzzle-loader guns. Richard was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He was known to be a very lucky guy who loved life and cherished his family, friends and his dogs.
Richard is survived by his wife, Doreen; his mother and father, Betty L. and Richard Carl Small all of Warrens; two sons, Carl Wayne Small and Allen Patrick Small, both of Beloit, WI; two nephews, Joseph Plummer of Barron, WI and Robert Plummer of Eau Claire, WI; along with other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his sister Lu Ann Small.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah, WI. Pastor David Oakes will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn Lillian Van Antwerp
Evelyn Lillian Van Antwerp, 83, of Rockford, Ill., died Friday August 1, 2008 at the Asta Care Center in Rockford, Ill. She was born on July8, 1925 to Edward and Rose (Dvorak) Rasch in Briggsville, Wis. She married Frank Sherman Van Antwerp on August 25, 1951 in Woodstock, Ill. Mrs. Van Antwerp was employed by Admiral Corporation as an assembler until her retirement in 1972.
Survivors include her two sons: Sherman Van Antwerp of Beloit, Wis. and Donny Sherfinsky of Pell Lake, Wis.; two daughters: Flora Lippite of Beloit, Wis. and Delores Sexton of Belvidere, Ill.; two sisters: Doris McCarthy of Pell Lake, Wis. and Viola Stanseel of Anchorage, Ala. She is further survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Franklin in infancy, two sons-in-law: Rick Lippite and Bill Sexton; her brother and his wife, Martin and Leona Rasch.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Rosman, Uehling Kinzer Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Mr. Lance Bifulk will officiate. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from noon until the time of service
