Pro-Am will help expand emergency facilities
Golfers were happy with the sunny, warm weather as well as the chance to meet PGA Golf Pro Jerry Kelly during the 23rd Annual Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation Pro-Am Monday.
Ann Sitrick, executive director of the Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation, couldn't be more pleased with the turnout and how Mother Nature was so cooperative.
“It's a wonderful day for golf and Jerry (Kelly) has done a great job. It's always wonderful to have him join us. He's a very personable guy,” Sitrick said.
The Pro-Am, held at the Country Club of Beloit, attracted 96 local golfers and 24 golf pros. Also, there were about 212 guests for dinner, which Sitrick said was close to a record for the Pro-Am.
The event exceeded the goal of raising $100,000 to help pay for the expansion and renovation of Beloit Memorial Hospital's Emergency Medical Department. The event raised approximately $140,000 for the E.R. project.
Currently, the emergency room has 15 beds, but when the expansion is complete, it will have 27 beds, additional waiting room areas, as well as diagnostic equipment such as X-ray and a CT scanner. The project is expected to cost about $11 million. About 20,000 square feet of room will be added to the emergency department.
Jeannie Yowler, director of emergency/CCC/Intermediate Care, said groundbreaking for the expansion is expected in September, and the emergency room staff is very excited about the project.
“They are really excited and they are preparing for the project. It will be a challenge,” Yowler said.
Once the project begins, the general public will be informed about changes of entrance to the emergency room and other changes as the project progresses. The expansion is expected to be complete in 2010.
“So many people use the E.R. and they want the community to have the best emergency room possible,” Yowler said.
Also featured at the Pro-Am was the silent auction, which featured many donated items that guests could bid on throughout the evening. Some items included a golf outing at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., a Sports Illustrated magazine autographed by IRL driver Danica Patrick, a sunset cruise for 10 on a yacht on Lake Geneva and a 52-inch TV.
Jerry Kelly, a Madison native, also gave a golf demonstration before dinner, showing guests how they can increase their drive distance and accuracy.
Key sponsors of the Pro-Am are Regal-Beloit Corp., First National Bank and Trust, Tricor Insurance and Kerry Inc.
