Worker assistance deadline nears
Filing deadlines are approaching for disaster unemployment assistance for workers in counties affected by flooding in June.
The assistance is available to workers who were unable to work due to flooding, according to Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Roberta Gassman.
In Rock County, the deadline to file is July 20.
Applications can be filed by calling the Unemployment Insurance Division in Madison at (608)232-0678 or toll free at 1-800-822-5246.
Coneflower seeds now available
Purple coneflowers, the official flower of Beloit, are now available for residents to pick up.
In May, citizens chose the purple coneflower above two other nominees to become the official flower of Beloit. The more than 1,000 seed packets have been delivered by Taylor Creek Native Plant Nursery in Brodhead and are now available to residents. The packages are specifically designed for Beloit and read “The winner of the America in Bloom competition.”
Visit Beloit Executive Director Martha Mitchell said people are welcome to pick up seed packets at the Visit Beloit office, Welty Environmental Center, the Water Works Pump House or Taylor Creek Nursery. The seeds are meant to be planted in the fall, Mitchell said. Seed packets are free and available to the public until they are gone.

Temporary water sources have been set up in Rock County for those who have contaminated wells.
Water sources include the following:
Town of Beloit Police Department, 1133 Inman Parkway. A filtered water faucet as been set up for citizens in the parking lot.
Town of Rock Town Hall, 5102 S. County Road D, Afton. The Town Hall has two outside faucets for public use.
Town of Milton Town Hall, 23 First St. Citizens can get water inside the town hall during office hours which are 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The town hall is closed 11:30 a.m. - noon for lunch.
Edgerton Fire Department, 621 N. Main St. An outside faucet is available. Signs will be posted at the faucet.
Citizens should bring their own clean containers to carry water.
Community Day set in Roscoe
ROSCOE - The Roscoe Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Community Day Event 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. July 19 at Kinnikinnick School, 5410 Pine Lane.
The event will include a craft fair, a car show, a free bounce house, a BMX stunt show, free wagon rides and a community expo. Several businesses and community organizations will offer children's activities and information on their products and services.
Crafts including candles, jewelry, photography, birdhouses and more will be available.
Also, a Farmer's Market will be open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Main Street Square, and the Firehouse Pub will host a Summer Street Party 9 a.m. - 11 p.m.
