Madison's Jerry Kelly to be featured professional
Jerry Kelly will be the featured golf pro at this year's Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation ProAm Golf Event.
The Madison native has been a professional golfer since 1989.
This will not be his first appearance at the Beloit ProAm. He was the featured pro in the 2003 Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation ProAm.
Kelly, 41, placed second this weekend in the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, earning him $396,000. He is currently ranked 48th among pro golfers in the world. Last year, Kelly had $1.9 million in tournament winnings. So far this year, his tournament winnings have totaled $933,342.
This year, Kelly tied for second place in the Puerto Rico Open and placed third in the Sony Open in Hawaii.
The Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation ProAm will be held July 28 at the Country Club of Beloit.
Funds raised from this year's ProAm will go to support the planned expansion and renovation of Beloit Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room. Currently, the hospital's emergency department has 15 beds. When the expansion is complete, it will have 27 beds, additional waiting room areas, room for diagnostic equipment such as X-ray and a CT scanner. The project is expected to cost $11 million.
As is tradition at the ProAm, Kelly will golf one hole with each of the foursomes entered in the ProAm. Generally, the featured pro also gives a golf demonstration or a talk during the event.
The ProAm will feature its traditional highlights such as a silent auction and a dinner. Dr. Michael Donnelly is serving as chairman of the ProAm committee.
Twenty-four golf pros will be paired up with about 96 local golfers for the ProAm.
Last year's ProAm raised about $150,000.
Key sponsors of the ProAm are Regal-Beloit Corp., First National Bank and Trust, Tricor Insurance and Finance and Kerry Inc.
