ROCKTON - Hononegah High School administrators conducted a Code Yellow at the school Wednesday after a note that was found caused concern for student safety.

According to a statement from Superintendent Randy Gross, the code yellow was called at 10:50 a.m. and cleared at 11:08 a.m. After a search of the building, it was determined there was no viable security concern.

Principal Ehren Jarrett could not elaborate on what the note stated, as it is an ongoing investigation, but did say that upon its discovery, school officials felt it necessary to conduct the code.

“We followed our code yellow protocol and our hall sweep team did a thorough investigation of the school to confirm that there wasn't anything to be worried about,” Jarrett said. “Fortunately, by 11:08 we were able to go back to code green and resume classes as normal.”

A code yellow is a “soft lockdown” that is conducted to make sure that all students are accounted for in locked classrooms while administration searches the building to ensure student safety. Classes were operating normally by the noon hour, according to the statement.

Parents were notified of the incident via the school messenger program, which sends messages by cell phone, e-mail and other electronic means when an emergency has occurred or other pertinent information needs to be conveyed quickly.

The notification was also posted on the school's Web site at www.hononegah.org.
