Kelli Trumble visits, talks about tourism, energy initiatives
Kelli Trumble said tourism runs in her blood.
So when she was appointed Wisconsin Tourism Secretary last year by Gov. Jim Doyle, the appointment was up her alley.
On Thursday, she brought her enthusiasm to Beloit to invigorate community members and city officials on the topic of tourism and renewable energy resources.
“I was so excited to come here today,” she said, after a welcome from Visit Beloit Director Martha Mitchell. “I'm so wowed by what's been done in this community.”
Doyle, she said, is trying to unearth the soul of Wisconsin, and efforts put forth by Beloit are right in line with his mission.
She made reference to the many businesses in Beloit that have already “gone green” and made sustainable efforts to become eco-friendly, such as the new science building at Beloit College, Frito Lay, Kettle Foods, ABC Supply and Beloit Memorial Hospital.
“All of us contribute to the image of Wisconsin,” Trumble said. “It's becoming a desirable destination for people to travel, work, go to school, and a place where people care deeply about the environment.”
Trumble said Doyle sent her to Beloit with an important message about renewable energy.
“We're all working together to be innovative and work together to utilize renewable energy,” she said.
Doyle is proposing in the next 10 years to spend $150 million to help farmers, businesses and manufacturers to develop alternative sources of energy, she added.
“It's amazing what communities can accomplish together when you have a vision,” she said. “Tourism is in my blood, and I'll be honored to share Beloit's story.”
Mitchell called tourism an amazing industry, and welcomed Trumble back to Beloit any time.
“We'd never run out of things to show you,” Mitchell told her. “Call on us if the state ever needs help with anything.”
