ROSCOE - People will be able to tote around designer look-a-like purses thanks to a new store.
Phaedra Morgan opened Too Purse ‘N' All, 5306 Williams Drive, in the Main Street Square on Dec. 1.
The store offers more than 50 designer-inspired handbags as well as jewelry and accessories.
“It looks like a Coach, but it's not a Coach,” Morgan said.
Morgan has what is called designer inspired purses. They look similar to bags by Kate Spade, Gucci, Coach, Louis Vuitton and Dolce and Gabbana.
The purses look similar to the purses sold by designers, but are a little less expensive. For example, Morgan's purses range from $30 to $70, while designer purses can range from $130 to $1,000 and beyond.
A former stay-at-home mom, Morgan wanted to build upon her love of unique fashion and accessories.
These days, purses are big business. Countless purse parties allow women to sell designer look-a-likes from their homes. Although Morgan will host a purse party in her store, she wanted a location so women could walk in and look for purses when they wanted to.
She wanted to provide an alternative than the uniform merchandise offered in big box stores.
“It's just fun, fashion and style,” Morgan said. “I like unique things.”
Morgan has been pleased with the positive response to the store. Customers are flocking in. Some are women getting gifts for themselves and some are husbands and boyfriends doing a little Christmas shopping.
If business goes well, Morgan may add clothing and other fashions to the store.
Morgan's mother Gay Belcher works in the store with her one day a week. Morgan grew up in Woodstock, Ill. Her and her husband Aric, a biochemist in Rockford, have two children, Hannah, 11, and Sam, 6.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is open until 7 p.m. Wednesdays. For more information, call (815)623-1224.
