Cougars trip up Blue Devils in RVC baseball: Williams sparks Clinton's offense
CLINTON - Senior Cody Williams had three RBIs and Josh Danielson had the go-ahead RBI as the Clinton Cougars outlasted the Evansville Blue Devils 6-2 on Tuesday.
Williams hit a two-run single in the first inning, giving the Cougars (3-4, 2-3 RVC) a brief 2-0 lead. Evansville came back with two in the top of the second, but wasn't able to cross the plate after that.
Clinton took the lead in the fourth after Grant Oldenburg singled and Jordan Cernek bunted him to second. However, Cernek hustled down the line to beat the throw, which skipped past the first baseman and put runners on second and third. Danielson then followed with a groundout to first on an 0-2 count to score Oldenburg.
The Cougars added three more in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by Zach Wisowaty, who also scored two runs in the game and had two hits.
Cernek started for the Cougars and got the win. Keifer Cary pitched three innings of scoreless relief to preserve the victory.
Beloit Turner 10, Parkview 0: The visiting Trojans improved to 10-0 overall as they manhandled the Vikings on Tuesday. Mike Jacobs and Brett Sweger combined for at two-hit shut out for Turner. Jacobs struck out five in five innings.
Turner scored a run in the first, three in the third, two in the forth and four in the fifth to invoke the 10-run rule. Rick Chernik, Jaron Bertelsen and Sweger all had two hits apiece.
PREP SOFTBALL: Ilse Fritz pitched five scoreless innings as the Turner Trojans (6-4, 5-1 RVC) beat the host Parkview Vikings (4-5, 2-4 RVC), 10-0 on Tuesday.
Turner's offense exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning to break open a then scoreless game. Cindy Kunkel had two hits, including a home run to lead the Trojans offense. Alli Driscoll and Kayla Conway also had two hits a piece.
South Beloit 14/16, Durand-Pecatonica 3/4: The SoBos softball team swept Durand-Pecatonica Tuesday behind an offensive explosion. Laci Seiler was a combined 5-for-5 in t he two games, including a home run, two RBIs and five runs scored. Courtney Jacobson also had five hits and scored seven runs. Nicole Saari added a home run in the second game for the SoBos.
PREP GOLF: The Clinton Cougars team score of 163 was good enough to beat Big Foot by three strokes on Tuesday to win the Edgerton Conference meet held at Town Country Club.
Edgerton finished third with 169, followed by Evansville (171), Beloit Turner (177), Brodhead (178), Parkview (182), Palmyra-Eagle (198).
PREP GIRLS SOCCER: Madison La Follette 7, Beloit Memorial/Turner 0: Sydney Temple scored a hat trick and Allison Klaas added two more goals as the visiting Lancers routed the hosts at Jacobson Field.
The Lancers had 40 shots to Beloit's 3. Alexandra Vial posted three saves for the shutout.
The Knights slipped to 2-9-1. Beloit's jayvees did win, 1-0, and the freshmen tied, 1-1.
