Latino Community Health Fair to be in Beloit for eighth year
The Eighth Annual Latino Community Health Fair will be held 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. March 17 at Beloit Memorial High School.
The health fair, being coordinated by Nutrition and Health Associates, will feature Dr. Juan Hernandez of the Mercy Beloit Medical Center, who will be speaking about diabetes. Also at the fair, free health screenings will be offered. Screenings will include blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings and diabetes screenings.
The Even Start Dancers will perform at the fair and there will be food, prize drawings and children's activities. Also, many area agencies will be talking about their programs in an effort to increase awareness about services available to families.
Last year more than 300 people participated in the Latino Community Health Fair.
The Latino Outreach Strategy is an effort to better serve Rock County's growing Latino community. It has a goal of promoting greater access to health care and services to the Hispanic community. This broad-based cooperative effort includes many individuals and organizations. Member organizations serving on the committee include Nutrition and Health Associates, Beloit Memorial Hospital, Even Start, Beloit Area Community Health Center, UW - Extension, Rock County Health Department, Latino Ministry Espiritu De Esperanza, Beloit Memorial High School, Mercy Beloit Medical Center, El Centro and Beloit Clinic.
