Police seek two in armed robbery
South Beloit police are looking for two men who robbed the Ramada Inn early Sunday morning.
According to police reports, the desk clerk said a black man carrying a long-barreled shotgun approached the desk from the north hallway at 1:02 a.m., pointed the gun in her face and demanded money. She gave him money and noticed a second black man standing around the corner, who then also approached the desk.
The two men left with cash, exiting the building to the west.
The first suspect is described as being in his early 20s, 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with full lips. He wore a gray sweatshirt with a hood and had white mesh material over his face and gloves on.
The second suspect was in his early 20s and was 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with a stocky medium build. He wore a black, loose fitting sweatshirt with a zipper, and the hood was up. He wore a neoprene mask over his nose and mouth and also had gloves on.
There were no witnesses and the clerk was not injured.
Crime scene technicians were called and several nearby police agencies assisted.
Anyone with information should call police or crime stoppers.
Man injured burning brush
A South Beloit man was injured while burning brush in Rockton Saturday.
According to South Beloit police reports, the man was burning brush in the 900 block of North Blackhawk Boulevard in Rockton when something exploded. He went to the 700 block of Winfield, his home in South Beloit, to call for help at about 4:58 p.m.
South Beloit fire department transported the man to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, according to the police report.
Man arrested for drug possession
South Beloit police arrested a man for possession of more than 459 grams of marijuana.
Darius Roberson, 31, of the 300 block of Canden Road, Madison, was stopped by police just after 9 p.m. Saturday for having a suspended license plate. Upon his arrest, they searched the vehicle and found the drugs in the trunk.
According to police reports, Roberson told police a friend asked him to transport fireworks and he popped the trunk for the friend, believing fireworks were placed in the trunk. He claimed to have no knowledge that marijuana was placed in the trunk.
He was arrested for violation of the cannabis control act and for driving while suspended.
Police took the 2005 Chevrolet Impala as evidence and may seize the vehicle.
Rotary Garden vandals arrested
JANESVILLE - Three Janesville teens were arrested over the weekend in connection to recent damage to Rotary Gardens.
Nicholas E. Martin, 16, of the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, Tomas J. Castro, 19, no fixed address, and a 15-year-old male, all were charged with one felony count of damage to property after police found two individuals sleeping on the Janesville Ice Arena property Friday.
Martin has been waived to adult jurisdiction from a previous police matter.
According to a press release, a police officer assigned to bike patrol conducted a security inspection around the ice arena and found the two teens sleeping near the facility.
The police officer interviewed the individuals and learned information regarding the criminal damage to the Rotary Gardens on June 19. All three individuals were taken to Rock County corrections facilities. The case is still under investigation.
