ROCKTON - The Village of Rockton is planning a special census count this year, it was announced Tuesday at the village board meeting.
Village President Dale Adams said the village will hire 10 to 12 census takers to help with the process, which is expected to begin sometime in August.
The second issue was brought to the table by village trustee, Terri Flodeen, in regards to the Ringland Johnson Contract for Settlers Park. A draft of this contract was constructed by village attorney Paul Nicolosi.
Nicolosi went over the slight changes in the contract that were made recently. The changes clarified that payments were to be made at the second monthly board meeting.
At the last minute, Ringland Johnson also wanted to make changes to the contract regarding the limit of days they had to work on the project. The board voted 5-0 to approve the contract without the contractor's changes.
The last item to be discussed was brought to the table by village trustee Dave Winters. He requested the approval of Rockton Youth Association and Belvidere Jaycees to be allowed to solicit donations at the intersection of Blackhawk and Main Street.
The board voted 3-2 against both parties due to the congestion caused by traffic in the downtown area.
The board has decided to only allow organizations who have traditionally done their fund-raising on that intersection on an annual basis for many years.
However, the board understands that these fund-raisers are for a good cause and would be happy to consider other destinations for possible fund-raising.
“We'd be able to help in other ways,” Flodeen said.
In other action, the board:
Approved the Lions Club Liquor License request for Old Settlers Days.
Approved a future meeting regarding Roscoe's boundary agreement.
Tabled maintenance of Christmas lights on downtown buildings until the board can receive more information.
Approved the 2006-2007 budget.
