Men arrested after stabbing
Two men were arrested after one allegedly stabbed the other in an altercation that occurred in the 600 block of Central Avenue just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Beloit police arrested Juan Jose Ochoa-Casique, 25, after witnesses said he stabbed Manuel M. Rojas, 27, according to reports.
Rojas was taken to the Emergency Room for treatment of two stab wounds in the side, which were several inches deep, as well as some other injuries. Rojas was also arrested for disorderly conduct while armed.
Beloit Police Capt. Bill Tyler said that, in the course of the investigation, Jorge Montes Casique, was arrested on outstanding bench warrants for endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, lewd and lascivious behavior and disorderly conduct.
Worker rescued from trench
ELKHORN - A workman in Sugar Creek Township was rescued from a collapsed trench Aug. 10.
Walworth County Sheriff's Department responded to W5780 Lost Nation Road at noon to find Adam Hall of Darien trapped to his shoulders. Hall was working for Flitcroft Septic Systems when the trench filled in around him, according to a release.
Quick actions by Deputies Bill Kampas, Bill Mortlock, and Craig Weber, along with co-worker Scott Ennis, enabled Hall to get air to his lungs while Elkhorn Fire/Rescue arrived. According to the release, deputies shoveled with hand shovels while Ennis dug around the man with his hands.
He was eventually freed, according to the release.
Backyard picnic to be hosted
ROSCOE - The Roscoe Chamber of Commerce and Beloit Memorial Hospital will host a Backyard Picnic 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday at 5310 Williams Drive.
The event will allow Roscoe Chamber members to meet and network. Food and entertainment will be provided. For more information, call the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce.
Toys for Kids golf outing planned
ELKHORN - The Walworth County Deputy Sheriff's Association will hold its annual Toys for Kids Golf Outing Sept. 9 at the Evergreen Country Club.
All profits raised during the golf outing will be used to purchase gifts for children in Walworth County during the annual toy drive in December.
The golf outing will begin with a lunch at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. A steak dinner along with the awarding of prizes will complete the day's events.
The entry fee is $70 per person and includes both the lunch and steak dinner, 18 holes of golf, and a power cart.

Museum displays Chicago artist
Paintings by Chicago artist Erik Weisenburger will be exhibited beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 27 at the Wright Museum of Art, on the Beloit College campus.
The exhibit is called Graceland, after Chicago's historic cemetery of the same name. The artist states that "Graceland is a repository of Chicago history and architecture, and a microcosm of artistic and architectural details." The cemetery has surprised him with its intimacy and sense of community, and "the instinct to keep a foot in the mortal world through monumental and sentimental remembrance that paints a vignette of the true and our ideal memory."
The Wright Museum of Art is free and open to the public 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
