Smit slips to 1-5

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Beloit starter Alexander Smit pitched well enough to win, but saw his record dip to 1-5 as the Snappers fell to the Swing of the Quad Cities, 7-2, in Midwest League action Monday night.

With one out, Knoff loaded the bases by walkiing Angelo Fermin, Deacon Burns and Jeremy Pickrel. Knoff struck out David Winfree, but Mark Zamojc singled to right to plate two runs. Kevin Ool replaced Knoff and got Trevor Plouffe to ground into a forceout to end the inning.

Ool then retired the side in order in the ninth.

Smit allowed a run in the first inning when he gave up consecutive singles to Matt Shepherd, Joe Mather and Jarrett Hoffpauir.

The game stayed 1-0 until the fifth. Smit retired the first two batters, but walked Wes Swackhamer. Matt Lemanczyk knocked him in with a triple. A wild pitch by Smit allowed Lemanczyk to score and make it 3-0.

Quad Cities tacked on four runs in the seventh inning, but just one was earned off reliever David Shinskie.

Matt Shepherd and Jarrret Hoffpauir each had two hits to lead Quad Cities' eight-hit attack. The Snappers had just four singles and a triple by Burns.
