Cancer benefit set
A benefit for Deanna McKittrick Trickie, who has been battling cancer for a year, will be held 3 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Borderline Banquet and Bar, 107 Dearborn St., Beloit.
The cancer benefit will feature Kats Karokee, raffles and food. All is to assist Deanna McKittrick Trickie and her family. She has lung cancer and cancer has spread now to her brain and breast. She goes to Janesville for treatment. She has four sons and three grandchildren. Her husband is Cliff Trickie and her parents are Charles and Laura McKittrick.
The cover charge for the event is $5 per person.
Women's Center opens
ROCKFORD - An open house will be held 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday for SwedishAmerican Health System's new Center for Women.
The center is on the second floor of the Renaissance Pavilion, 1340 Charles St., Rockford. The center combines the former Breast Health Center and Women's Center services into one location. The $1,5 million, 12,000-square-foot facility will offer services such as mammograms, breast ultrasound and MRI, ultrasound and stereotactic biopsy, gynecological exams, osteoporosis (bone density) screenings and more.
Refreshments and door prizes will be featured at the open house.
Kids' health fair slated
ROCKFORD - The Children's Medical Center at Rockford Health System will host a Children's Health Fair at the CherryVale Mall 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday.
Children will be able to get their fingers casted, look at real blood cells, check their heart beats, get their faces painted and check out a real ambulance.
Last year, more than 1,000 children participated in the fair.
Teen depression addressed
A new group for female teens who are having difficulty coping with overwhelming feelings in their lives will be offered beginning Tuesday at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
The group will meet 5 - 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday March 15 - April 19 at Beloit Memorial Hospital, 1969 W. Hart Road. The groups is designed for girls age 15 - 18 who are interested in ways of thinking and acting that would decrease feelings of depression. Karen Mascharka, whose clinical interests include working with adolescents and teens, will facilitate the group.

Sleep problems discussed
A support group for people affected by sleep apnea will meet 6 - 7 p.m. March 23 in the auditorium at Beloit Memorial Hospital, 1969 W. Hart Road.
AWAKE, which stands for Alert, Well And Keeping Energetic, is offered by the sleep disorder staff at the hospital. The group offers information on how to adapt to a sleep apnea condition. Lynn Harms, respiratory manager will be the featured speaker.

Children of divorce helped
A seminar for children age 8 to 11 who are trying to cope with the divorce of their parents will be offered 8:30 a.m. - noon April 2 and 23 at Beloit Memorial Hospital, 1969 W. Hart Road.
Nicole Gougeon of the Counseling Care Center at the hospital, will help children adjust to changes at home, share and cope with feelings and help face challenges of divorce. The seminar is for children whose parents are going through divorce, have recently divorced or who have been divorced for years. The cost is $75 per child. Snacks and educational materials are included.

Runners help donors
ROCKFORD - The Red Shoe Run, presented by the Rock River Valley Blood Center, will be held 6:30 - 11 a.m. April 9 at Rock Valley College, 3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford.
The 5K run and one mile noncompetitive walk is being held to benefit the National Marrow Donation Program. Entry fees and pledges will help blood testing of potential marrow donors. For the first 200 who pay $18 or more in pledges for entry, a long-sleeved T-shirt will be awarded. Prizes for the team that raises the most in pledges will be awarded.
