Diabetes screening set
ROCKTON - Free blood sugar screening will be offered 9 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rockton United Methodist Church, 102 W. Chapel St.
The Crusader Clinic/Cosmopolitan Mobile Diabetes Program will offer fingerstick blood sugar screening, followed by a talk on diabetes and its risk factors. Those who plan to have their blood sugar checked should fast (no food or drink other than water) for at least eight hours prior to the screening.
The event is part of a Health Awareness Weekend at the Church.

Blood drive scheduled
A blood drive for the Rock River Valley Blood Center will be held noon - 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Rotary River Center, 1220 Riverside Drive, Beloit.
The Rock River Valley Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and related products for Beloit Memorial Hospital as well as the three main hospitals in Rockford - Rockford Memorial Hospital, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center and SwedishAmerican Hospital.
Those who donate blood must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health on the day blood is donated.

Food vendors honored
Certificates of recognition recently were awarded by the Beloit Health Department to local food establishments, noting their exemplary sanitation efforts.
Certificates were given in four categories. Those recognized were:
Institutional Restaurants - Beloit College - Chapin Hall, Beloit College Pearsons Hall, Beloit Memorial Hospital - West Hart Cafe, Beloit Memorial Hospital Snack Shop, Beloit Memorial High School, McNeel Middle School.
Commercial Restaurant - Bagels & More, Cousins Subs, Culver's, D's Snack Shop, Diamond Lanes, Dog World, Fazoli's, Jane's Cafe, KFC - Prairie Avenue, Liberty Inn, the Mouse Tavern, Salvador's, Subway - Milwaukee Road, Subway, Prairie Avenue, Suds O'Hanahan's, Tilley's Pizza, Tony & Maria's and Turtle Tap.
Retail Food Processor - Country Store - Shirland Avenue, Save-A-Lot and Tex's Grocery.
Improvement in Food Safety - Dita's and Pizza Hut - Prairie Avenue.
Running club starts
ROSCOE - Those interested in running and seeking motivation and camaraderie can join the Roscoe Running Club.
Club participants can run 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 7 p.m. Wednesday. On Saturday, the group goes on a long run. Babysitting is available for all runs that start at the Stateline Family YMCA in Roscoe.
the group is led by Deanna DeFrank, who has 23 years experience in running.
Occasional talks will be held regarding nutrition, cross-training and other topics. The program is free for club members and will cost $25 for the general public.
