Skate program returns
ROCKFORD- The popular Home School Skate and Play Program at Rockford Park District's Carlson Ice Arena and Sapora Playworld is under way for the current school year. The discount program is offering every Monday for home school students and features indoor ice skating from 2-4 p.m. During the sessions, Playworld indoor playground will be open for children 12 and under. Discount prices are offered for skating, skate rental, Playworld and combinations, including a family package with all activities for $15. Registration is ongoing at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Winter Rec-Fest planned
LA CROSSE- The La Crosse Park & Recreation Department and Youth Enrichment Association will present the 19th annul Winter Rec-Fest Jan. 23-30 in La Crosse, Wis.
Youth and family events will include a skate party, figure skating exhibition, skate, pass and score contest, Mighty Mites Hockey Jamboree, family ski/snowboard day, Scrabble tournament and kids carnival and snow sculpture contest.
A torchlight ski/hike, lighted sledding hill, fireworks and a fish fry are planned, as well as an ice fishing derby, snow disc golf tournament, Youth Fun Night at Fun City, Hood Park Skate Fun Day and the Polar Gold Open.
Adult events include a co-rec broomball tournament, co-rec snow volleyball tournament, co-rec one-pitch snow softball tournament and the Tri-State Euchre and Sheepshead tournament.
A Rock 'N Roll' Party featuring Mr. Blink is also planned.
The purpose of Winter Rec-Fest is to offer a variety of winter-time activities to a large number of participants - to young and old alike. Visitors are encourages to take advantage of the many public recreation areas. Concessions will be available at several locations with proceeds benefiting youth recreation programming.

Ski jump tournament to be held
The Snowflake Ski Club in Westby, Wis. will host the 82nd annual International Ski Jumping Tournament Feb. 18-20.
The tournament will begin at noon each day at the Snowflake Nordic Center in Timber Coulee, located between Westby and Coon Valley. Skiers from 10 foreign countries and the U.S. and Canada are expected to compete in the Continental Cup Ski Jumping Tournament. Several are Olympic teams.
Special events will include a hospitality party 6 p.m. Feb. 18 for skiers and fans at Nordic Lanes. A dance will follow the tournament Feb. 19 in the Rod & Gun building.
Admission is $15, advance; $20 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free. Buttons are good for all three days.
