Lovelight trees to glow at hospital

The holiday season is a time to count blessings and to appreciate the love of family and friends.
A holiday tradition in Beloit that is centered around these sentiments is the Lovelight ceremony, which allows community members to remember loved ones who have passed away or to honor friends and family in a special way.
The Lovelight ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Monday on the grounds of Beloit Memorial Hospital, 1969 W. Hart Road. The main event of the ceremony will the the lighting of the Christmas trees on the hospital grounds, with each light representing a loved one who has passed away or a special person who is being honored.
Beloit Memorial Hospital volunteers ask that a minimum donation of $5 be given for each light. A white light represents a loved one who has passed away and a red or green light represents a person who is being honored. The names of all those being honored and remembered will run in the Beloit Daily News .
The funds raised by the Lovelight program will be used to support the hospital's new cancer-fighting technology. The newest technology in the hospital's Cancer Care Center reduces radiation time for patients, increases patient comfort and pinpoints radiation treatment to reduce any damage to healthy tissue surrounding cancerous areas.
The Lovelight ceremony usually draws many people from the Stateline Area. The ceremony features the singing of songs of the season, an address by hospital officials and, finally, the first lighting of the trees.
Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to gather in the lobby of the hospital where refreshments will be served and people can socialize.
