State builders group will honor Klobucar
The people whose companies build schools and bridges and hospitals and churches and factories and roads, each year honor a standout performer in their field. This year the honor goes to a Beloiter, Jerome F. "Jerry" Klobucar.
At a gathering Thursday in Green Bay, Klobucar will receive the coveted 2004 Wisconsin Horizon Award from the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin.
Klobucar is a vice president and the lead project manager for Klobucar Construction Co., Inc., whose offices are on County Road S (Shopiere Road) near I-39/90.
The Horizon award recognizes the recipient's accomplishments in working with associates, architects, subcontractors and customers. Nominees also are selected based on their community involvement and service.
A Beloit Catholic High School alumnus, Klobucar, 40, earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988 and his master's degree in business and finance at UW-Whitewater in 1996. He's been with the family firm since 1988 as an estimator and project manager.
Architects, customers and others who wrote letters supporting Klobucar's nomination for the award, stressed his honesty, cooperative nature, communication skills, and emphasis on quality.
Klobucar has been manager for numerous projects in the Beloit area, among them Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, new Beloit College residence halls, the new Beloit Clinic addition and major renovation of the First National Bank's downtown facility, a project now in progress.
Klobucar's community activities have included service on the Beloit Library board and the Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation's board. He is a member, director, and past president of the Rotary Club of Beloit. His connection with Rotary led him to involvement with Paul's Computer Institute in the West African nation of Cameroon. He's traveled to Cameroon to assist the institute's founder, Paul Mickelson of Beloit, with building projects. He serves on the computer institute's board.
Klobucar Construction was founded in 1966 by Jerry Klobucar's father, Ferdinand, who is now retired. Thomas Ptacin is president of the company and Jerry and Jim Klobucar are vice presidents.
