Woman sentenced for shooting, standoff
A woman committed to the mental hospital after allegedly firing shots at her ex-boyfriend in Beloit was sentenced to probation with jail time for the incident.
Karen A. Tiffany, 46, of the 1900 block of Kellogg Avenue in Janesville, was sentenced to 10 years probation for first degree reckless endangerment and to three years probation, to be served concurrently, for failure to comply with an officer's attempt to take her into custody.
She also will serve one year in jail concurrently for each count.
The incident occurred Nov. 14 in the 1800 block of Chippewa Trail, Beloit. A man identified as Tiffany's ex-boyfriend told police she had become jealous of attention other women were giving him at a bar that evening and threw things at him before firing a gun.
Tiffany surrendered after police negotiated with her for several hours.
She was taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital for evaluation then transferred to Mendota Mental Health Center in Madison.
Police look into vehicle break-ins
Beloit Police are investigating a number of vehicle break-ins that occurred over the weekend.
Beloit Police Capt. Bill Tyler said the incidents occurred in various locations in the city and involved both criminal damage and theft.
Anyone with information should call Beloit police or Crime Stoppers.
Two arrested for road sign damage
Two Beloit men were arrested for knocking down a number of road signs after police found the truck they allegedly used in a ditch near one of the damaged signs.
Nathan G. Moss, 23, of the 900 block of Moore Street and Chad S. Hansen, 24, of the 12000 block of South Beacon Light Road, were arrested for eight counts each of felony recklessly endangering safety, misdemeanor theft and criminal damage, Rock County Sheriff's Department Commander Tom Gehl said.
The incidents occurred in or near the Town of Newark early Friday morning. Gehl said eight mostly stop signs were either knocked down or stolen.
Gehl said a deputy stopped and talked to Moss and Hansen on the way to a reported truck in a ditch on Beloit-Newark Road just east of County K, where another sign was also down. The truck was later found to be registered to Moss.
Moss and Hansen were arrested at about 1:30 p.m. Friday.
They will appear in Janesville intake court Nov. 30.
Report of shots investigated
Beloit police investigated a report of shots fired Sunday.
The call came at 3:40 a.m. in the 1900 block of St. Lawrence Avenue, according to Beloit Police Capt. Bill Tyler.
Police are continuing investigation of the report.
No further information was available as of press time.
