'Tammy Baldwin failed our veterans'

Print Article

Liberal media outlets are soft-pedaling the way Tammy Baldwin attempted to cover up the scandal at the VA hospital in Tomah. The Tomah Veterans Hospital was over-prescribing opioids to veterans, resulting in injury and death to veterans.

Gannett newspapers reported Baldwin's cover up at the time in multiple articles. Baldwin and her staff knew this was happening and swept the problem under the rug. The Inspector General Report uncovered the scandal and Tammy Baldwin buried the report.

A Green Bay Press Gazette story in January 2016 described how a whistleblower who learned in November that Baldwin had had a copy of the Inspector General's report for months and hadn't acted, repeatedly emailed her office asking that she do something to help the veterans at the center.

The whistleblower, former Tomah VA employee Ryan Honl, asked that Baldwin call for an investigation, that she push colleagues on the Veterans Affairs Committee to take action, and that she help bring the issues in the report to public attention. The report had not been made public, but Baldwin's office received a copy in August.

Baldwin's cover-up included firing a top aide and offering a severance package with a non-disclosure agreement to buy the aide's silence.

Baldwin is now acting like she is the veterans' champion. Ask her why she won't even acknowledge terminating the aide. Ask her to disclose the proposed five-figure severance deal offered to the aide to buy her silence.

Tammy Baldwin failed our veterans. Again.
