JANESVILLE - An update on the Interstate 39/90 construction project between Beloit and Janesville will be held Aug. 22 at the Holiday Inn Express, 3100 Wellington Place.

The meeting, set for 5-6:30 p.m., will include updates on the construction schedule and the staging to reconstruct around 12 miles of the interstate from Hart Road near Beloit north to the U.S. Highway 14 interchange in Janesville, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT).

A separate meeting for business owners will be held earlier at the same location from 4-5 p.m. Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials urges business owners within or near the construction area to attend the informational session.

The interstate project plan is to add a third lane in each direction between the state line and Madison, with interchange improvements along the route. The entire project has been scheduled for completion in 2022.

Work on the local portion of the project is scheduled to begin in September and wrap up in Spring 2020. The interstate will remain open with two lanes of traffic in each direction. Work will begin on the northbound Interstate lanes and northbound traffic will be shifted over to temporary lanes onto the southbound side of I-39/90 during construction. When the I-39/90 northbound expansion is complete, both northbound and southbound motorists will be shifted to the new northbound pavement as crews reconstruct and expand the I-39/90 southbound lanes, according to a WISDOT news release.

During construction, local roadways under I-39/90 in Janesville may be temporarily closed for bridge work. Advanced notice of these temporary closures will be announced to the media and on the I-39/90 Expansion Project website at i39-90.wi.gov.

In a separate portion of the project, work to replace the Stateline Road Bridge that runs over the interstate is scheduled to be complete in September. Construction on the bridge began in April.

Maps showing the proposed improvements will be on display. Wisconsin Department of Transportation representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
