'Working among the angry, lost'

Print Article

William "Willie" Cooper must be one of the saints to which Scripture refers to in Psalm 116:15.

Willie Cooper labored faithfully and courageously in the "valley of the shadow of death," which is south side Chicago. He sought to save young Afro-American men and boys from their own violence and offer them a job pathway to realize their own potential.

Now we can only hope and pray that someone will pick up the banner of "Lilydale Outreach Workers for a Better Community" and honor God and Willie in continuing his work among the angry, the desperate and the lost. Perhaps the violent and tragic loss of William "Willie" Cooper will not be in vain if it serves as a light to change, as a source of uniting a community spirit, and as a touch point to change our hearts and the hearts and minds of the young men Willie faithfully served.

May God be with them; Willie is now with God.
