Bucs repeat as academic team winners

BELOIT - The Beloit College men's basketball team struggled on the court last season, but had a banner year in the classroom.

Head Coach Brian Vraney's Buccaneers have been recognized with the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2016-17 season for the fifth straight season.

Created by the NABC Committee on Academics, the award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season.

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II, must count the GPA of all student-athletes who competed during the past season.

Beloit is one of three Midwest Conference schools to earn the honor and one of nine NCAA Division III schools in Wisconsin.

The Bucs finished 6-17 overall, 4-14 in the MWC last season.
