102-room hotel set for Beloit

BELOIT - Plans have been submitted for a 102-room extended stay hotel in Beloit.

Plans have been submitted to the city to build a Home2 Suites hotel by Hilton adjacent to the Hampton Inn on Reynolds Drive, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The hotel is expected to have site preparation work start this summer, with a projected opening set for the spring of next year, according to Beloit Hotel Group associate Lance Schaefer.

The 8.3-acre site was passed through the city's Plan Commission last month.

"It's geared for stays from two weeks to a month or more," Schaefer said. "Currently Beloit doesn't have an extended stay option."

Rooms include suites and in-room kitchens, according to the Home2 Suites website. The hotel also will offer free breakfast and be pet-friendly.

Meanwhile, the Holiday Inn Express at 3022 Ford Street could have site plans approved within three weeks, according to Building Services Director Drew Pennington.

Plans are to break ground on the 124-room hotel later this summer.

The city is waiting on site plan revisions, and an early start permit could be applied for by KDN Hospitality. A possible restaurant development could accompany the hotel, if KDN chooses to parcel out the site for future development.

A controversial Wisconsin Department of Transportation plan to build a storage facility near the hotel has drawn pushback from developers, but officials said WisDOT could move the facility closer to the Hart Road intersection, along the WisDOT-owned right-of-way along Interstate 43.

"It's a good image for the city to see a project go up in that area," Pennington said in reference to the hotel development.
