Buccaneers drop two

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Beloit Colleges softball team put up a battle before falling in game one against Lake Forest, but had no answer in game two of a doubleheader loss Wednesday afternoon.

The Buccaneers fell 7-2 and 13-0.

In the opener, Beloit fell behind 3-0 after two innings as Lake Forest scored twice in the first and once in the second.

April Apfelbaums two-run single in the fourth brought Beloit back within 3-2, but the Foresters closed out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the inning for the final score.

Apfelbaum finished with two of the Buccaneers four hits in the game.

Beloit starter Sonya Myscofski pitched 2 1-3 innings and allowed only one hit and three bases on balls. Shania Johnson (3-8) came on and allowed five hits and seven runs, six earned, in 3 2-3 innings.

The Foresters (16-12, 7-3) dominated the nightcap, starting with an eight-run first inning. They added one in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth while keeping Beloit off the scoreboard to end the game early.

Myscofski (0-4) only retired one batter and was charged with five hits and six runs, four earned. Johnson came on and pitched 3 2-3 innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs, six earned.

The Bucs (6-24, 3-9 MWC) got singles from Emalie Thern and Alex Kohn for their only hits in the game.

• NOTES: Beloit has a long weekend ahead on the road, with a pair of Midwest Conference dolubleheaders in Iowa, beginning Saturday afternoon at Grinnell College.
