BELOIT — A plan to bring a new assisted living facility to Cranston Road near Telfer Park is underway, after crews began clearing the site for construction earlier this week.
Cranston Elderly Care will add a 26-bed, 13,750-square-foot facility in Beloit, with building and architectural plans currently under city review, according to Beloit Director of Planning and Building Services Drew Pennington. The process to bring the facility to Beloit started last year.
Approval of the renderings is expected in the next two weeks, Pennington added.
The new building would be comprised of brick and vinyl siding, with dark bronze aluminum storefront entry ways, according to the renderings. There is a twin building located in Clinton, according to developer Wayne Wegenke.
The project is expected to take six months to build, and construction will start as soon as the ground thaws, Wegenke said.
Wegenke has helped build 50 assisted living facilities, all within the state, he said.
“I want to help provide options for the elderly,” Wegenke said. “It’s a very fulfilling thing to do. It’s more fun to build these types of things. I think it’s something good for the community.”
The developer added he is still searching for more land within the city for future projects.
“I love working in smaller communities,” Wegenke said. “There’s a need for this type of housing everywhere.”
Each new facility creates 20 full-time jobs, from administrative staff to nursing professionals.
