ROSCOE — ZaZu Gift Co. will be closing its stores in Roscoe and Rockford, according to an announcement posted on the store’s Facebook page Jan. 9.

The Zazu Gift store opened in Main Street Square in Roscoe in 2002 before moving to its present Roscoe location at 11013 Main St. The owners purchased the location in 2012, and the Rockford store, 6551 E. Riverside Blvd, opened in April. The shop’s closure was prompted by health concerns, according to owner April Hernandez.

“When we got the news that my condition was triggered by stress, we knew right away where it was coming from,” Hernandez said. “ZaZu was a big stress factor for me with having to work 60-hour weeks.”

Hernandez said the decision to close the store that sells clothing, home decor and novelty items was a tough. The store also offered children’s and baby items, along with various accessories and gag gifts.

The store does not have a specific closing date, and Hernandez said she and her husband, David, would keep the store open until the inventory was sold.

“We’re just sort of winging it right now,” she said.

The family’s furniture store, Direct Value Furniture, will move into the Roscoe location at 11013 Main St.

“We will still dabble in home decor,” Hernandez said. “We just had to take it down a little.”

The store also announced a 25 percent off sale on all inventory, and the discount applies to both locations.

“Please stop in to see us and stock up on some gifts to give throughout the year at a great discount and use up any remaining gift cards,” the social media announcement said.

All sales are final, and the stores will be unable to accept coupons or $10 off cards from loyalty points, according to the announcement.
