WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — Normalcy returned for Beloit Memorial’s boys hockey team Saturday.
After drawing 11 penalties to Greendale’s one in a 7-6 overtime loss on Friday, the Purple Knights regrouped to knock off the DeForest Norskies, 7-2, in holiday tourney action Saturday at the Poppy Waterman Arena.
Beloit trailed DeForest 1-0 after the first period, but outshot DeForest 18-4 in the second period and put in six goals to take a 6-1 lead.
The Knights (7-6-0) were whistled for five penalties to DeForest’s four, but held the Norskies to 0-for-4 on power plays.
DeForest’s Hunter Walters scored in the first period, but Beloit tied it 4:07 into the second period when Tyler Jensen scored on an assist by Jake Benzing. The Knights went up 2-1 at 6:31 of the period when Benzing scored on a power-play goal off assists by Tyler Jensen and Riley Jensen.
Just 18 seconds later, Riley Jensen scored an unassisted power-play goal. Benzing scored on assists by Riley Jensen and Tyler Jensen. Noah Davis and Tyler Jensen also found the net in the period.
DeForest opened the third period with a goal, but Riley Jensen answered shortly after on an even-strength goal assisted by Benzing and Tyler Jensen.
Beloit goalie Taven Santucci had 20 saves. Christian Bault (13 saves) and Andrew George (17) for 30 in the game.
The Knights will host Big Eight foe Madison Memorial at 7 p.m. Thursday at Edwards Ice Arena.
