Bob “Chips” Ciarpaglini and Mike Townsend combined to win Viking Lanes’ second annual Over-and-Under Tournament on Saturday.
Thirty-nine teams participated in the tourney, which included doubles teams comprised of one bowler over 50 years old and one bowler 49 or younger. Bowlers from the Beloit, Janesville, Clinton and Rockford associations were eligible. The number of entries doubled from last year.
Each team member bowled five qualifying games and the total score determined which 16 teams advanced to a Baker System finals. In the finals, a bowler on each team bowled either the odd or even frames.
Chips and Townsend were the third-highest qualifying team. They opened with a 202-193 victory over Parizio/Kipp. After edging Jim Brien Jr. and Jim Brien Sr., 259-258, in their closest match, they downed Bobby Wofford and Josh Ward, 224-185. In the finals, they defeated Tom Schaid and Todd Kjell, 198-171.
First place was worth $600 and points went toward the Beloit Association’s Bowler of the Year.
